I share the best stuff on my ipod and ask you the question...What are you listening to? And to answer that question, my call in line (714) 855-2639 On today's show, blatant promotion for my future dark over lord in desperate hope that he will spare my life when he takes over the world. If you don't know who I'm referring to yet than how big is the rock you've been living under? I am talking about the deliciously twisted Scott Sigler. His Novel Infected is coming out in bookstores this April 1 but our dark overlord has a unique twist on selling his book. He is giving it away for free. Well not the random house hard back version with the very cool cover Check the cover art for this episode. but the PDF is available for 3 days and he is encouraging all of us faithful followers to download it and email it to all our friend. So if you're hearing this after April first. email me Podcastjunky@gmail.com and I'll make sure you get a copy. As long as you promise to pass it along to a few friends...or perhaps enemy's if you want to give them nightmare's. Click here to download the free PDF of INFECTED But wait...that's not all. Scott is also podcasting Infected for the second time. He podcasted it under the name Infection two years ago but dew to another project of the same name he had to change it slightly to Infected. I didn't have to look up that two year date because I remember what I was doing exactly two years ago. I was in my third trimester with my son and I was not listening to Infection. I was saving up episodes. You see I knew from my daughter's birth that I would likely spend a long time in labor. Not the horrible pain, give me drugs now kind of labor, that came later. I figured I would be ramping up slowly with many hours of, "well that was uncomfortable" followed by 10-15 minutes of feeling fine. I was right, I woke up that day in may at 7am and didn't head off to the hospital until 10 pm. They just would have sent me home before that anyway so why bother with the trip in. Since no one would let me do anything that day, being in labor and all, I would have to take control of my own entertainment. I also knew it would have to be something intense and interesting enough to distract me from the tiny creature trying to escape from my belly. So I spent much of that day having Scott Sigler tell me all about one parasite while I was finishing up with my own parasite. now don't go sending me letters, I love the kid besides, that's a paraphrase from my Doctor. Technically a baby in the whom is living off of mom completely and therefore is a parasite. Now lets listen to Scott's opening and his very strong warning about violence. Now I want to keep the explicit tag off my show so I have chosen my clips VERY carefully. It wasn't easy. In fact I am only going to play two. I had some others picked out from later in the first chapter but don't want to spoil anything for you. I'm trying to give you a sense of how intense his work is and it is a horror novel so you might want to send the kiddies away now. Now a tiny taste from the prologue to Infected Why is he giving all of this away for free? Because this is how new media works. Because he has shown that he has an audience, an audience that will buy a book we already have in audio form. So get down to your book store on April first and prove to Random house that they backed the right horse. And prove to all the big publishers that podcasting and new media is the future and it is the right direction for them. Now naturally I couldn't end this without playing the Infected promo. Show Name: Infected Host: Scott Sigler Now on to the Link Love In the show opening I mentioned Slice of Scifi a Scifi fantasy fancast it's also an online magazine that became so popular they were not only taken on by XM radio but also generated so much buzz that they had to break off their voicemail into it's own show. I also mentioned the Kick-Ass Mystic Ninjas They focus on older science fiction and fantasy books, television, and movies. Now I usually choose shows for the opening that are opposite or at least different in some way. These are two sifi shows, in fact one is a break off show from the other. So why did I choose these two? Well they have something else in common. Joe Murphy. Joe was on both shows. I have to say was because he passed away April First. As the anniversary of his death approaches many podcasters are remembering Joe. Stay tuned to this feed for more on that. I never met Joe personally but I know him in a way. I know him through the podcasters who knew and loved him. Their reaction, as often happens when a loved one passes away, was to cling on to each other. The podcasting world, or at least this corner of it became one big podcasting hug. I have been fortunate to get a taste of that community when I became a podcaster and even as a listener. You ask someone in podcasting for help with something and most likely if they can't help you themselves they will point you in the direction of someone who can. And they don't even point and laugh a little at me for my silly questions, well most of them don't anyway. This is an amazing community and I feel proud and lucky to be a part of it. You will be hearing more about the Joe Murphy Memorial fund and the related podcast "Give Us a Minute" in a few days on this feed. But if you want to check it out before then there will be a link in the show notes. I want to thank 3rd man for putting their song Now then Soon onto the Podsafe music network so I could use it. Also the Beatnik Turtle's for giving me permission to play the song you are about to hear. Mason Rocket. And to Joe Murphy, wherever you are. I'll be drinking a toast to you and to your not so secret alter ego, Spy extraordinaire Mason Rocket. Go subscribe to Give us a minute http://www.joemurphymemorialfund.org/ |
